At Manchester Stairlifts, every reconditioned stairlift undergoes a rigorous, full-strip refurbishment in our Ashton-under-Lyne workshop to ensure it meets the same safety standards as a new unit. As an Acorn-approved family-run firm covering Greater Manchester, we distinguish our process from simple ‘used’ sales by replacing worn components, testing all systems, and backing every fit with a 12-month parts and labour warranty.

What “Reconditioned” Actually Means

A reconditioned stairlift is not merely a second-hand unit sold “as-is”. It is a pre-owned model that has been returned to our Manchester workshop and subjected to a complete overhaul. The process begins with a full strip-down of the carriage, rail, motor, and control systems. Every visible and hidden part is inspected, cleaned, and assessed for wear. Only units that pass our initial quality gate proceed to the next stage, ensuring that what you receive is a reliable, safe, and fully functional system—not a gamble.

Our Workshop Refurbishment Process

Our reconditioning workflow is methodical and transparent. First, we remove the stairlift from any previous installation and transport it to our workshop. Here, engineers dismantle the entire unit, separating the motor, brake assembly, electronics, upholstery, and safety sensors. Worn or degraded parts—such as brake pads, safety sensors, belts, and upholstery—are replaced with new, compatible components. New 12-volt batteries are installed to guarantee consistent power, and the rail is cleaned, polished, and checked for structural integrity.

Once mechanical and electrical components are reassembled, the unit undergoes a full safety test. This includes dynamic load testing, brake response verification, sensor calibration, and multiple run-cycle checks up and down the rail. Cosmetic cleaning covers the entire unit, restoring it to a near-new appearance. The finished product is then logged, photographed, and made available for installation—all within 24–48 hours for straight and reconditioned models.

Why Used Isn’t the Same as Reconditioned

Buying a “used” stairlift often means acquiring a unit sold without inspection, repair, or warranty. These “as-is” second-hand units may have hidden faults, worn brakes, degraded batteries, or faulty sensors—issues that can compromise safety. In contrast, our reconditioned stairlifts are fully serviced, tested, and certified before sale. We replace critical wear items, update electronics where needed, and ensure every safety feature functions correctly. This is the difference between a risky purchase and a trusted, safe mobility solution.

The Acorn 130: Our Main Reconditioned Model

The Acorn 130 is our most popular reconditioned straight stairlift, ideal for standard domestic staircases. It features a manual swivel seat, standard upholstery, and a compact folding design that maximises space. As an Acorn-approved supplier, we ensure every reconditioned Acorn 130 meets the manufacturer’s original safety specifications. The unit supports up to 120kg, includes an emergency stop, and comes with a smooth, quiet motor. For curved staircases, we offer the reconditioned Acorn 180, which requires a bespoke rail and longer lead time (1–3 weeks).

Warranty, Safety, and Ongoing Support

Every reconditioned stairlift from Manchester Stairlifts includes a 12-month parts and labour warranty, covering both the unit and our installation work. This is not a short-term guarantee; it reflects our confidence in the refurbishment process. We also offer ongoing servicing and repairs across Greater Manchester, ensuring your stairlift remains safe and reliable long after installation. Our engineers are trained to handle all Acorn, Brooks, Handicare, and Platinum models, providing consistent support whether you choose new or reconditioned.
