Second-hand Stairlifts - The smart way to stay independent at home.
A reconditioned stairlift is a previously used straight stairlift that we've stripped down, professionally refurbished and safety-tested in our own workshop. The result is a lift that looks and works like new — fitted by our local engineers for a fraction of the cost.
We hold popular models such as the Acorn 130 and Brooks BS101 in stock, so a reconditioned straight stairlift is often the fastest way to get someone safely up and down the stairs again after illness, surgery or a sudden change in mobility.

How we recondition
Workshop-rebuilt stairlifts, safety-tested, fitted like new.
Every reconditioned stairlift goes through the same workshop process before it ever reaches your home. If a unit doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't get fitted.
- Full visual & mechanical inspection
- Electrical safety checks
- Battery replacement & charging test
- Motor and drive system testing
- Safety sensor & seatbelt testing
- Seat, arms & footrest checks
- Remote control testing
- Deep clean & refurbishment
- Final operation test before fitting
Reconditioned vs second-hand
Not the same as buying second-hand off the internet.
A stairlift is a safety product — not a piece of furniture. A second-hand lift bought privately is sold as-is, with no inspection, no warranty and no professional fitting. A reconditioned stairlift from us has been workshop-rebuilt, safety-tested and is installed and backed by our own engineers.

Models we stock
Reconditioned stairlift specs at a glance.
The two models we hold in stock cover the vast majority of UK straight staircases. Here's how they compare on the specs that matter — folded width, user weight limit and drive type.
| Model | Folded width | Weight capacity | Drive type | Power | Price fitted |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acorn 130 | ~370 mm from wall | Up to 125 kg (19½ st) | Rack & pinion | 24 V battery (works in power cut) | £995 |
| Brooks BS101 | ~340 mm from wall | Up to 127 kg (20 st) | Rack & pinion | 24 V battery (works in power cut) | £DOA |

What we currently hold
Real workshop stock — not a "from" price.
Every stairlift on our reconditioned line has been rebuilt in our Ashton-under-Lyne workshop and is ready to fit this week. If we don't have your exact rail length in stock, we cut a fresh rail from new stock the same day — the £995 price doesn't change.
We only sell workshop-graded units. Anything that doesn't pass our full inspection is stripped for parts, not sold on — so there are no "Grade B" or "Grade C" surprises at your door.

Reconditioned curved stairlifts
Why we fit new curved stairlifts, not reconditioned.
We're often asked for a reconditioned curved stairlift. The honest answer: a curved rail is bent to fit one specific staircase. Reusing it on a different property nearly always means re-bending, re-welding or splicing sections — which weakens the rail and voids the manufacturer's safety certification.
Because of that, we don't fit second-hand curved rails. Instead we install a brand-new made-to-measure curved stairlift — fully guaranteed, with a rail cut to your exact staircase. Curved configurations vary widely, so pricing is confirmed after your free home survey rather than advertised as a fixed figure. Cheaper "reconditioned curved" offers usually turn into a part-worn rail plus a full new-fit charge; ours is a fixed all-in price with no surprises.
Straight vs curved — reconditioned vs new
- Straight staircase: reconditioned from £995 — same warranty as new.
- Curved staircase: brand-new made-to-measure — pricing confirmed after your free home survey.
- Tight budget / short-term: ask about a straight rental from £75/month.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a reconditioned stairlift cost?
A fully reconditioned straight stairlift is a fixed £995 fitted, including the free home survey, installation, handover and a 12-month warranty.
What does 'reconditioned' actually mean?
A reconditioned stairlift is a previously used lift that has been professionally stripped, inspected, deep-cleaned and rebuilt in our workshop. Worn parts are replaced, batteries renewed and every safety feature tested before it leaves us.
How quickly can you install one?
Because we hold reconditioned straight stairlifts in stock, we can usually survey and fit within 24–48 hours of your first call. Same-day emergency fitting is sometimes possible — ask when you ring.
Is a reconditioned stairlift as safe as a new one?
Yes. Every reconditioned lift goes through the same rigorous safety checks as a new install, with new batteries, tested sensors, a working seatbelt, hold-to-run controls and a lockable keyswitch.
Is there a warranty?
Yes — every reconditioned stairlift includes the same 12-month parts and labour warranty as new, plus a 24-hour emergency callout line covering Greater Manchester.
Will it damage my staircase?
No. The rail attaches to the stair treads, not your wall. When the lift is eventually removed, the holes are small and easily filled.
What if I have a curved staircase?
Curved staircases need a made-to-measure rail, so we fit brand-new curved stairlifts for those — see our curved stairlift page for details.
