Why curved stairlifts suit Wigan homes

Many Wigan homes simply aren’t suited to a straight stairlift rail. From the older terraces around Scholes (WN1) and Swindley, to the 1930s semis in Hawkley Hall (WN3) and Highfield, staircases often dog-leg around a half-landing, turn 90° into a small box room, or sweep right back on themselves in a tight 180° turn. A curved stairlift is built to follow these bends exactly, so you can travel safely from hallway to landing in one smooth run without transferring between lifts.

In the red-brick streets off Darlington Street East, Springfield and around Worsley Mesnes, you’ll commonly find narrow, steep staircases with a quarter-turn at the top – and often a low head-height on the turn. In these houses a straight lift can either block the hallway or stop short of the actual bedroom level. A made-to-measure curved rail hugs the inside of the bannister, keeps the hallway clear, and parks neatly on the landing so doors still open fully.

Further out, larger properties in Standish (WN6), Shevington, Orrell (WN5) and around Appley Bridge often have wide staircases with a broad half-landing or even a sweeping 180° return. Here, a curved stairlift can be designed to follow the full run, including any fan-shaped steps on the bend, and can park around the corner at the top or bottom so the chair is completely out of the way. We also regularly fit curved rails in ex‑council stock around Beech Hill, Norley Hall and Platt Bridge, where compact stairwells and mid‑landings make a straight rail impractical.

How we measure and manufacture

For every Wigan curved stairlift we carry out a digital photo survey. Using specialist software, we build a precise 3D model of your staircase – every turn, landing and change of pitch is captured. Your rail is then custom-made in one continuous curve, so the ride is smooth and the chair stays level throughout. Standard manufacture takes 1–3 weeks, or we can prioritise an Emergency 48‑hour option where clinically urgent and technically suitable.

Fitted price in Wigan

A fully bespoke curved stairlift in Wigan is £2,995 fitted. That includes survey, design, rail manufacture, installation, demonstration and a full warranty – with no hidden extras for bends, parking points or call‑send controls on a typical domestic staircase. Most customers with a long‑term illness or disability can claim VAT relief, and we’ll guide you through the simple declaration so you only pay what you need to.

Curved stairlift £2,995 1–3 weeks (or 48 hours with Emergency)

Reconditioned straight £995 24–48 hours

Local access and response in Wigan

We know what access is like across Wigan – from tight terraced streets near Wigan Infirmary, Scholes and Newtown, to busier parking around Robin Park and the newer estates near Martland Park and Bakers Court (WN2). Our engineers use small vans and will agree a realistic arrival window, taking into account school run traffic on routes like Warrington Road, Ormskirk Road and the A49. For most addresses in WN1–WN6 we can offer prompt survey and fitting slots, and if someone is coming home from Royal Albert Edward Infirmary or another local hospital, we’ll do our best to coordinate fitting before or just after discharge.

Servicing existing curved lifts in Wigan

If you already have a curved stairlift in Wigan, we can service and repair most makes, including Acorn, Stannah, Handicare, Brooks and older Bison models. Whether it was installed by another company or came with the house, we can carry out safety checks, annual servicing, replacement batteries and call‑outs for faults, usually with fast response within the Wigan area.
